Why Liebestaube
Everything today arrives instantly.
Liebestaube doesn't.
Messages arrive typed mid-sentence. Read receipts turn "I saw it" into a countdown you didn't ask for. Delivery apps show a dot crawling down a street in real time, apparently even food shouldn't make you wait anymore. Somewhere in all that optimizing, we quietly optimized away the wait itself. And the wait was doing more work than we gave it credit for.
There's a German phrase for the thing we lost:Vorfreude ist die schönste Freude, anticipation is the greatest joy. Not the arrival. The stretch of time before it, when you're still allowed to look forward to something.
So the pigeon really flies. Real distance, real weather, real hours: you can watch it cross a headwind and know your letter is running a little late for the same reason a bird would be. It's not a loading bar pretending to be profound. It's just refusing to pretend the distance between two people isn't real, and letting you feel it a little, on purpose, because feeling it is most of what love letters were ever for.

A named pigeon departs and actually flies the real great-circle distance between you, through real live weather. Thirty minutes to two days, depending on how far apart you really are.

End-to-end encrypted
Text and photos sealed on your device with Curve25519 + AES-GCM before they ever leave it. The server only ever sees ciphertext, so we can’t read your letters, and nobody else can either.
Real weather, live
WeatherKit reports live conditions at the pigeon’s actual position as it crosses the map. A headwind slows it down, a tailwind speeds it up, the same way it would for a real bird.

The pigeon’s position is computed along the real great-circle path between two coarse GPS fixes, tracked on the Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, and a Home Screen widget.

You and your partner name your pigeon together and watch its stats grow with every flight: distance flown, countries crossed, letters delivered, computed from real history.
Distance means something
Flight duration is computed from the real haversine distance between you: thirty minutes to two days, depending on how far apart you actually are.

Flight time comes from the real great-circle distance between two coarse locations, not a number picked to feel dramatic. Live weather at the pigeon's current position speeds it up or slows it down exactly the way it would a real bird. A headwind can cost your letter real minutes, and you can watch it happen.
